Will the Sprint Google Nexus One be dropped soon too?

he AT&T version is now available with the T-Mobile version while the Verizon version has been dropped with the HTC Droid Incredible taking its place. With the Sprint HTC EVO 4G becoming available in June we now have to wonder if the Sprint Nexus One will also be dropped soon.

If the Sprint version is dropped then there will be now CDMA version of the Nexus One and the fact that Google sells hardware seems to make less sense.

Nexus One Coming To Verizon (Soon)

Rumors about just when Google’s Nexus One smartphone will hit the market have abounded for months now. The only official word from Verizon about the whole deal was that it was ‘coming soon’ and should be ready by ‘Spring 2010.’

Times of the Internet spoke to a source at Verizon who wished to remain anonymous, and this source said that the launch was ‘imminent.’ Apparently there are some legal issues holding up the launch, but these details shouldn’t be enough to delay the Verizon Nexus One for long.

“Expect it before the end of April,” said the source.

Google Nexus One shows up in France on Bouygues Telecom’s website

Bouygues Telecom is the first French mobile carrier to list the Google Nexus One on its official website.

Unfortunately, Bouygues doesn’t say when exactly the Nexus One will be available – but it might happen this month, when the Google superphone should also be available via Verizon in the US, and via Vodafone in the UK.

Nexus One To Verizon March 23?

Availability will reportedly start on March 23, when Verizon will become the second U.S. wireless carrier to offer the Nexus One. Rumors aside, March 23 is the first day of the CTIA tradeshow and is therefore a strong possibility for the launch date.

Tom’s Guide has a review of the Google Nexus One. Here are some of the highlights:
Today, the Nexus One is readily available in the US for T-Mobile, and in the spring of this year will be available on Verizon and Vodafone (Europe). While the price is good for a device meant to compete with today’s best smartphones, the Nexus One does not deliver the same quality and finish as other models, both on the hardware and software fronts.
Hardware letdowns: the trackball is useless and shouldn’t be there in the first place. The glass is not properly aligned with the screen, which makes it easy to accidentally press outside of the touch-sensitive parts of the glass.

Yet, the hardware in the Nexus One is also one of the best designs of an Android model to date. While the Droid is bulkier and larger-than-life, the Nexus One is subtle yet powerful. The lack of video playback greatly limits the extraordinary screen quality, though Google has made sure that there are enough gimmicky graphical additions to soothe concerned customers.

Because of the current faulty network, we can’t recommend the Nexus One currently for professionals, who cannot afford drop calls. This may change, as Google has officially stated they are now looking into fixing the problem. The Nexus One is also set to release in the US on Verizon’s network, which according to Consumer Reports is the top carrier nationwide.

As far as Android devices go, the Nexus One is definitely the best. Its speed and general use, as well as the fast growing number of available applications, makes the device an adept competitor to today’s smartphones. It doesn’t beat today’s standard, the iPhone, or some of its better competitors like the Palm Pre, but it can certainly take third place.

Google Nexus One Hands On

More details have emerged regarding the upcoming Google phone called Nexus One. Tnkgrl Mobile who has had a hands on with the device has confirmed that Nexus One, like Motorola Droid on Verizon wont support multitouch, out of the box. Not atleast in the two apps (Browser and Google Maps) that she tried out.

Due to some agreement, she was not allowed to capture video or picture of the phone, but she has confirmed the following hardware specs of the unit she tested.

Nexus One is extremely thin, thinner than Droid and iPhone 3GS.
Comes with 4GB microSD card as pre-installed.
Battery capacity is 1400 mAh
Capacitive OLED screen with almost the same size and resolution as the Motorola Droid.
3G will work only on T-Mobile USA. No 3G on AT&T (EDGE only).
It is unlocked. You can use it with any carrier you like.
It appears to work faster than Motorola Droid.
No multitouch in Browser and Maps.
No dedicated physical key for camera.
The trackball works almost exactly similar to other HTC phones like HTC Hero.
5 MP camera is on board. The performance of camera is decent in low light, but the flash is weak.
It uses micro USB connector for both data and power.

Google phone would break industry model

Google said in a corporate blog on Saturday that it has developed a phone based on its Android mobile operating system and distributed it to employees to try out. Soon after, pictures of the phone surfaced on the Twitter feeds of employees and outside bloggers with details that the device would be launched next month and sold directly to consumers. The new phone would be capable of operating on any network, according to a source close to the company who was not authorized to comment publicly.

Google’s approach would run counter to the current practices of handset makers and carriers that partner up in exclusive deals to market and sell phones, and provide mobile service. AT&T, for instance, has been the sole provider of service for Apple’s iPhone since the device was launched in 2007. Sprint tied up with Palm for its Pre smart phone earlier this year, and Verizon exclusively runs several versions of Research in Motion’s BlackBerry.

“This is a replica of the open-versus-closed war of the IBM mainframe versus the Macintosh for the mobile space,” said Tim Wu, a professor of law at Columbia University. “And Google is settling in for a long war here.”

Apple should allow iPhone to Verizon to thwart Nexus One

With the possibility of the new Google Nexus One handset going to T-Mobile over in the states, should Verizon Wireless now be working on Apple to allow them to offer the iPhone as a competitor to the Nexus One? That’s a big question.

Google’s Nexus One is poised to storm the mobile phone arena, take on Verizon’s Droid and possibly the iconic iPhone. Verizon doesn’t have a new handset to battle the Nexus One for popularity, so maybe, just maybe it’s time for Verizon and Apple to get serious on allowing the iPhone to the Verizon network, after all, such a move would be beneficial to both Apple and Verizon, and once done could well thwart the Nexus One.
